21st century usage: I’m just super metalinguistic this morning; my boyfriend and I have miscommunicated because I am metalinguistic

origin: 2009. first used to describe the flirting style of katie dover-taylor. developed from the following description: “sort of a parodic, [queer] fred durst-ish kind of way [...] which is actually precisely the kind of swagger you put on [...] when you’ve got your game face on, that is.” the definition has expanded to encompass a style of communication in general.
